A relaxer/perm only treats the hair that it comes in contact with. It doesn't cause your hair to be straight forever without any further care. Everyone's texture and growth rate is different but I personally need to get a relaxer every 6-8 wks.
Also, a perm doesn't always have to be the answer. Before you started perming your hair, did you make sure that it was moisturized and not susceptible to split ends? There are different shampoos and conditioners and mositurizers that help with detangling, and helping you hair keep a natural sheen. I have friends with curly hair, and I am black so my hair tends to get a little kinkier and I'm still able to keep it manageable. Its not easy at first, but its not impossible. Talk to you hair dresser about what to do with your hair in between perms or if you don't want to keep perming your hair.
Good Luck! Why is my natural hair in worse condition than when it was chemically treated?
I did answer your question. I said your hair was worse before the relaxer because it was DRY! I also explained why it looks like crap, cuz you need to moisturize it and detangle OR get it relaxed again. Sorry for trying to help

Actually...you answered my question based on what a persons hair would be like AFTER getting it chemically processed. That is not what I asked about. Also, you failed to read the part about my hair looking better after it's processed. It looks healthy and shiny after a perm (curling).

Before a perm or coloring, it looks awful. So how can a harsh chemical process be helping my hair? One would think it would make it look even worse. Pinkey, I did not consider her answer helpful so why would I thank her for that? My hair looks bad naturally because I'm a mixed race. Are you racist??
