Why do I have different colour/texture hair strands from natural hair?

I have fine medium brown wavy hair. But for years I have been finding some black, thick wiry hair strands too, which I usually pull out from the root. Does anyone know what these are and why I have them? Why do I have different colour/texture hair strands from natural hair?
Many people have more than one texture on their head. Nothing to worry about, IMO. You pull them out and they'll just grow back. Why do I have different colour/texture hair strands from natural hair?
i have those too, i don't think they're anything to worry about.

i don't really know why they're there, but if you're concerned about it, talk to your hairdresser or someone.

How do you take care of natural hair?

I stopped getting perms months ago, but I need to know more about this whole natural hair care thing. Last night when I was putting some oil in my hair, I noticed that my roots were extremely thick, but my ends are thin. What's up with that? Are the permed ends growing out or something. I also have been using Mane and Tale, but I'm going to switch to Organic Olive Oil products. What do you use? How can I get my hair to grow long and thick? How do you take care of natural hair?
Just so you know there is nothing organic about the organic olive oil products other than the word organic on the label. they use no certified organic products in their products and they can get away with this because cosmetics are not regulated by the USDA and thus the USDA organic program does not cover cosmetics. this means they can package nuclear waste and call it organic legally. You need to read the labels and look for the word organic in the ingredients and also make sure no parabens ( a known carcinogen) are being used

http://www.organicconsumers.org has a campaign to make organic cosmetics really organic. they also have a list of who makes for real organic soaps, shampoos, make-up, etc..

Mane and Tail is a horse shampoo but it is a terrific shampoo for human heads as well and is missing some nasty ingredients like parabens. Not organic but closer than a lot of products claiming to be organic. How do you take care of natural hair?
Isn't mane and tale a horse shampoo? Perm is a bad solution, did you use Alkaline or Acid perm? Also, to take care of your hair, use Pantene Repair and Protect shampoo, and conditioner, and also a tub that is a replenish conditioning treatment.

What is the best way to go back to my natural hair color?

I have been dying my hair a dark golden brown color for about a year now. My natural hair color is a light golden brown. I haven't dyed it in about 4 months and my natural color is now visible. What is the best way to get it back to its natural color? ( I don't want to spend too much money getting anything done at a salon)What is the best way to go back to my natural hair color?
Use Color Fix. Products like Color Fix, Color Oops, and Haircolor Remover Kit can be purchased at most drugstores. Color Fix and Color Oops will remove hair dye, restoring hair to its natural color. Haircolor Remover Kit by L'Oreal will strip hair of all dye and prepare it for re-tinting so that you may dye it another shade. Read the packages carefully and choose which is best for you. What is the best way to go back to my natural hair color?
Either allow it to grow out, or get your hair cut.

Or you could also ask the beautician to get the dyed hair around the same color as your natural color so there won't be such a dynamic transition in color.
There are hair products in supermarkets that strip your hair of the previous colours you've had, leaving it all natural.

If you dye your hair darker will it affect your natural hair color?

Im thinking about dyeing my hair, I have a chestnutty brown, but I want to dye it darker. But im worried if I dye it I will permenatly skrew up my hair. Or can I dye it darker and then if I want my old hair color back can I dye it back to a very similar color? If you dye your hair darker will it affect your natural hair color?
Well when hair grows out it will not grow to be the color you dyed it, so no not permanently. And yes you can dye it to a similar color if you want your natural color back.If you dye your hair darker will it affect your natural hair color?
It won't REALLY **** up your hair if you go darker, it might just make it a little dryer.

The only thing that'll totally ruin your hair is if you bleach it.

Going darker is fine, you can always just dye it back to a color that is closest to your natural.

If your realllyyyy worried about it, just go a little bit darker at a time. Its easier to go darker than lighter.
If you dye your hair, it won't affect any new hair growing in but dyed hair is not as stable as natural hair. If you changed your mind and dyed it back to match your natural color, the dyed part would fade over time. They do make a shampoo and conditioner for dyed brown hair to help make the color last longer, though.
once you dye your hair you can't dye it lighter, unless you remove the existing hair color (you'll have white hair) by that you'll damage your hair and it would look frizzy and not healthy since the color has been removed with all the other natural healthy oily things in your hair.

you just have to cut the old hair
it will not affect you're natural color that bad, but if you want you're old hair color back just go to a salon and get you're hair ';stripped'; it removes all the dye.

orrr! cheaper, just dye it back close to the old color.!
my natural hair colour = brown

    my current hair = black

    tbh..

    ifyou dye your hair..

its really hard to get back normal

    it does grow back..

but.. its not the same its darker

    blacker

if you like your natural colour..

    dont dye black

    or get temporary dyes (=
if you dye it it is very difficult to get your color back... you would have to lift it (bleach) and then color it... and possibly tone it....

once you dye your hair dark you cant dye it a lighter color...
Hmm.. I have heard of some cases working, and others not really working. I know for sure that if you grow out your dyed hair, it will return to the normal color.
nothing will permanently screw up your natural hair COLOR except for grays...but bleaching n dying might make it unhealthy
Any chemical component you use on your hair will have adverse affect... even if the comapany says it is not harmful to your hair...
nope it wont effect ur real hair color n if u want the color u dyed ur hair out cuz u don't like it u will have to go to a hair salon
    duh!!! dye=u gonna DIE
once u die ur hair its hard to get the regular color back i should no

How long will it take for me to get my natural hair color back?

I have an inch already of my natural hair showing which is a dish water blonde. The rest is a dark brown. How long will it take for my natural hair color to be at the top of my shoulders? How long will it take for me to get my natural hair color back?
Quite a while. It will probably fade over time, and also if you let your natural hair grow out, you'll have insane roots. Just let it grow and usually hair grows like, an inch per month? So you can do the math.

Is it possible to go from chemically relaxed hair to natural hair?

....without chopping the relaxed part off? And please don't go into detal on how relaxers are damaging, I already know that.Is it possible to go from chemically relaxed hair to natural hair?
no once you get a relaxer, it permanently straightens your hair. Only way to get it back to its natural state is to grow out the ';new'; hair. If you dont want to cut it all off at once, just keep trimming the ends and dont get any more relaxers. That is called transitioning. It will be easier to keep your hair untouched (braids, curls) to let your hair grow without putting stress on it.

yeah.... u just grow it out. it takes a while though and can look really messy. u have to comb it, the straight part and the new growth so that it doesn't pop out.
You can do it gradually with braids and weaves. If you leave it out, having half your hair permed and half natural looks a little tacky. If you don't want to do a ';big chop';... go with braids, weaves, or wigs. Braids are my choice
No there is no way to remove the relaxer from your hair without cutting it off. if you dont want to cut it off yet, and you want to grow out your natural hair first, the best way is to stop relaxing and transition with braids, cornrows, or sew in weaves. sew in weaves seem to cause my hair and scalp the least stress. visit www.nappturality.com and browse the forums for hair tips from other people in various states of natural-ness.
Well, generally chemical relaxers wear off over time - around 6 weeks - 6 months, depending on your hair type and how porous it was before the treatment.

If it doesn't, you could try heat curlers, which may eventually put some of the spring back into it.

How to get hair back to natural hair color?

I have naturaly dirty blonde hair and I have been dying it bleach blonde for the past year or so.

Now I want my hair back to dirty blonde.

BUT when I tried to dye it to dirty blonde within 2 or 3 weeks it faded back to bleach blonde.

How can I get my natural hair color back to just dirty blonde with out the bleach blonde underneath fading back in?

    Thanks!

=]How to get hair back to natural hair color?
I'd personally see a beautician to have it professionaly done. You're going to overdry your hair dyeing it too much. If you can't afford it, I'd look at your roots and go one shade darker than what your natural color matches on the box. And, hopefully it will come out right, and then just let your hair keep growing out with the natural roots coming in.How to get hair back to natural hair color?
With summer coming up i would probably low light it with a shade of your natural color or 1 level darker. If you hair is completely white blonde there is a good chance you would need a filler used to have it hold well. Your stylist should be able to help you or have her guarantee if she is confident that its not to damaged.
I don't think theres much you can do but grow it out. If you've already tried dying it and it faded out it will contnue to do so. Your hair is probly too damaged to hold color. If you've been dying it yourself I would suggest going to a salon, they may be able to help you out. Make sure they know what you're trying to do.
you need to visit a salon and have a color filler done. i am a professional stylist and it sounds like all the pigment is stripped. you need a filler and then all over color or gradual low lights in order for the color to grab and not fade out. also you must use color treated hair products.....see a professional
i know you can strip your hair with a stripping kit from anywhere that sells hair dye.
Don't use out of the box, go to a nice hair salon.

Hi. Northwest Scents natural black hair care products are formulated to be extra gentle and very moisturizing. For information visit http://www.black-hair-growth.info/black-鈥?/a>
As a stylist who specializes in natural hair care, I can reccomend some good tips and natural hair care products for your hair. I have several clients with relaxers and hair breakage and there hair is growing at 1-2 inches a month with an all natural hair growth shampoo called A Double Portion Super Hair Growth. It works wonderful on stopping breakage and actually hydrates African American and Ethnic Hair.

I also have several other tips to help your breaking hair. If you follow these, your hair should be in tip top shape in no time.

Assess whether you live an unhealthy lifestyle or use traditional drugstore hair products that contain alcohol and sulfates. If you do, you can potentially be stunting your hair growth. Switch to an all-natural hair growth product and follow the tips below. You will see a difference.

    Tip #1: Change your diet.

Increase your intake of proteins. Eat fish, eggs, beans, yogurt, and cheese. Drink a soy protein shake daily.

Tip # 2: Drink plenty of water

6-8 glasses is a must. 8-12 is even better.

    Tip #3: Get your vitamins

Take a B Complex, Fish Oil, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.

Tip #4: Only use an all-natural hair growth or hair thickening shampoos and conditioners

There are several good natural shampoos on the market, such as Aubrey Organics and Giovanni. However, I have used A Double Portion Super Hair Growth Shampoo on my hair loss clients because it is created specifically for hair growth and I have seen substantial results in a matter of a month. It is full of hair growth promoting essential oils, sage, cayenne, neem, jojoba, and aloe. For my clients that used it, their hair got thicker, longer, and softer. You can find it online at wwwdiscoverb4acom. It is great shampoo just for making your hair more manageable and smooth as well.

Tip #5: Place as little heat and chemicals on your hair as possible. No hair coloring please.

Tip #6: Live a stress free life.

Tip #7: Get your blood flowing

Aerobic exercise stimulates blood circulation throughout the entire body, including the scalp. This is important for hair growth. Also, consider massaging your scalp for 5-10 minutes a day with warm olive or coconut oil. It will accentuate your hair growth as well.
I like the Pinon leaf shampoo bar--it's good for dry hair

also the Rosemary nettle for dark hair works well.

I also recomment Mirtha de Perales Oil shampoo ';S';,

I'd also go get a bottle of coconut oil in an Asian or Hispanic grocery store.

    Good Luck!!!
That really depends on why the hair is breaking. Despite what the commercials promise there is no quick fix for hair breakage. Black hair breaks off for several reasons ( environmental, stress, dryness, over processing, vitamin deficiency and others) and until that reason is found and corrected. It will be hard to stop the breakage. While I will mention a couple of product names there is no ';best'; product for Black hair nor do you need to spend 50 dollars on the most expensive product. Without knowing the particulars and for simplicity suppose someone is trying to grow out a relaxer or other chemical treatment or just fighting routine dryness. Pantene Relaxed and Natural products provide excellent moisture without having to spend hours in the beauty supply store trying different products. After shampoo and conditioning a light non-petroleum based oil moisturizer should do it. No matter the name of the conditioner that is used regularly, Make sure that it is NOT a protein based conditioner. Too much protein can dry the hair and cause it to break. Moisture is key to healthy natural hair with protein added as needed for restructure. So once or twice a month give a deep protein conditioning with a product like Mizani Kerafuse. Be careful with any heat implements also. If you must straighten the hair this is where you may have to spend a little money. Use real ceramic flat irons ( not the ones in the drug store) on the lowest setting possible to acheive your desired results. Real ceramic does not dry the hair but the drug store models have ceramic mixed with some other alloy which can stick to your hair and pull it out.
try shaving cream and a bic razor.

How do I return to my natural hair color (strip hair color) after coloring without re-coloring?

I have dyed my hair many times before, and it always fades to another color and it begins to grow out. I want to know how to just strip all of the dye out of my hair so that I return to my natural hair color, without using any dye. Is there a good product to use at home to do this? How do I return to my natural hair color (strip hair color) after coloring without re-coloring?
You can only get your natural color by growing it out. When you color your hair you remove the natural pigment permanently. If you have used bleach that is why it always lightens up, your hair is so porous it takes in too much color then as you wash it you lose more color because it's

porous and can't hold the color. You really need to see a pro about corrective coloring. It's hard to tell you what to do with out seeing you or knowing what all you've done to your hair. How do I return to my natural hair color (strip hair color) after coloring without re-coloring?
You can't strip permanent color out of your hair. You're going to have to color it your natural. i'mpretty sure

if you have any specific questions you can email me.How do you take care of natural hair?
What I am doing right now is keeping it in braids but if you don't have anybody to do it for you then you just wash it and grease it every week and press it every month and I mean a really good press. You need to use organic carrot oil on your hair and hair mayonnaise. Keep it well condition and you should not have any problems. Get your ends cut every month and use Pantene Pro-V relaxed and natural.
Wash it , condition it, just as you will without a perm, except be more careful with it , because hair not so soft can break, or damage.. Go to yahoo, and type in the search you can find answers etc..
get shampoo and conditoner theats right for your hair.. Hair masks you can make your own with eggs and olive oil. Sleeping on a satin pillowcase all this can help also mosturise with a special moustiers for your hair type everyday
all u really have 2 do is wash it every day or every other day. talk to ur hair stylist if ur unsure how ur hair is doing. use a good shampoo and conditioner. dont flat-iron ur hair 2 much cuz that fries it!! hope this helps
well since your hair is probably damaged from the perming, you will need to use a lot of conditioners and rebuilding shampoos. if you want it to rebuild don't straighten it blowdry it. let it air dry and brush it out with those big square brushes not combs. also don't brush your hair until it is dry(like after you take a shower)
-Wash it and Condition it once a week.

-Make sure your hair stays moisturized(*grease)

-Do a hot oil treatment once a month

    Good Luck!

Why do black women relax their natural hair so much?

I think their natural hair is stunning and unique, why do so many of them damage it with relaxers and flat irons? Why do black women relax their natural hair so much?
It's not just black women, it's lots of women with curly or wavy hair. It's just personal preference. I know a lot of people who have curly and kinky hair and they either can't find hairstyles that work with their personal style or they just like the look of straight hair. It's not as big a deal as people like to make of it, it's whatever floats a person's boat. Why do black women relax their natural hair so much?
alotta times it's harder for black woman to manage their hair every morning. Chemical relaxers ease the process. i'm not a fan of it though. it caused alotta damage to my hair. it felt really dry and started breaking off in the front so i stopped using it. But i am a fan of the flat iron! lol i use it about once every 2 weeks so i dont completly fry my hair off lol but i love the flat iron cuz its no it's a permanant thing. once you wet it, it goes back, unlike the relaxer. that crap stays in your hair for months.

  • Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?

I want to do this, but I am scared of how everything will turn out. I have transitioned before (relaxed to natural) but the diff. is that I cut off most of the relaxed ends. I have never just cut it all off at once. What would you suggest? I am home for the summer, so I would not have to worry about other people seeing my head shaved, but at the same time I don't think I would feel very feminine.

My hair has been natural before, but I get frustrated with it bc I don't know how to properly handle it and I just give in to relaxers. When it is in its natural state, I can't treat it like kinky afro textured hair, bc it is wavy/curly but coarse at the same time. Therefore, I can't go a long time w/o washing it. My hair is also too fine to do twists and things of this nature designed for kinkier hair.

I have also tried the no shampoo method in which one washes their hair with conditioner, but it cause my hair to come out. What would you do?Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?
ok, there was a point in my life where I wanted to just shave off my hair, but before I did that, my friend told me to do this, and ever since then my hair has been perfect...do this once a week or every other week..this is awesome and will work..don't shave it babe! Do this YOU HAVE TO !!!!!!!!!

It's like being reborn (well your hair at least) it will feel like a baby after the first time you do it, and it wil only get better ify ou do this regularly.

Here you go! I have already gotten like a million best answers for this, and my friends call this hair crack. So, don't pass this up!

    FOR THICK AND THIN HAIR

    1. Warm up some olive oil in the microwave (not too hot, luke warm, and the purer the olive oil the better.)

    2. Apply it all over your hair. Apply it to dry hair. Especially pay attention to the ends.

    3. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap. (This is because it does get a little drippy sometimes).

    4. Place a towel around your neck. (Same reason as above.)

    5. Leave in for an hour.

    6. Shampoo and condition it out. (Make sure not to slip in the shower, that stuff is slippery.

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIN HAIR

Use coconut oil, and do the same as above. (It's not as drippy as olive oil though.) Coconut oil isn't really great for people with thick hair. It tends to make thick hair a little tangled and little greasy. So people with thin hair only!

Do this either once a week or every other week.

I have gotten so many people hooked on this, it should be illegal.

Definetly do this and tell me how it works! Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?
    YOUR CHOICE.

How I did it? I grew out my perm for 1 year, then got the treated hair cut.

Also, dying your hair loosens your curl like a texturizer so your curls will be softer and more manageable. Good products are Cantu ($5 at walmart), OUIDAD ($35 and up ouidaed.com), and Miss Jessie's (just google the product name). By following the directions, your curls should be EXTREMELY managable. I wash mine 2 times a week, use wash out conditioner everyday, and use Cantu Shea Butter leave in everyday.

    Love your curly hair!
yeah seriousl;y if you want your natural hair back thats the best way to do it to get it fast cause if you dyed it so many times it's going to need time to get all those colors out. If your going to be embaressed cause you have no hair i guess you could wear a wig with a hat on top or something. sorry. hope i helped.
U ahould not cut it all Just the damaged ends little by little as before Then consider growing it longer you can try some braids like french braids on each side if it gets long enough to have some weight Keep shampooing to keep clean and fresh but at the intervals that are easiest for you to maintain Assk people that lhave your type hair exactly that dont use relaxers and that dont have dreads. I see many Ethiopian/Arab women with kinky but not totally Afro style fix their longer hair w/o relaxers and it is often french braided and looks very pretty
You know, I was thinking the same thing! So after I get married I'm gonna shave my head and start again. It sounds like a great idea and you should be really dedicated to it!

    Good luck!!
I made the switch in Aug '06. What finally helped me was visiting WWW.MOTOWNGIRL.COM It's a great site because it teaches how to take care of you natural hair and what products to avoid. The biggest hurdle for me was myself. I had to get use to the idea of being nappy. Now, I love it and I wish I had made the switch earlier. It is actually easier to take care of and so much stronger than when it was chemically processed.

Email me and I'll give you some more tips.
omg i wouldn't shave it off mind you i do alot of crappy things to my hair like right now my hair is orange on da real but i ain't shavin it lol i think u need a trim on ur hair and a good shampoo and conditioner and we all have breakage
i dont think it will make a difference if youre bald or not.

as it grows cut off the parts you dislike and in the end you will only have your natural hair.
I always tell people to just go into a salon and get an opinion before you do anything.

i'm sorry i'm not that familiar with african american hair

if you're willing to shave your head, more power to you

i would suggest getting wigs though, just so you can feel good about yourself too

wish you the best of luck!
I wouldn't cut your hair, if I were you. If you regret it, it'll ruin your summer.

Wait untill your new-growth is long enough, than you can cut the rest. This could take up to a year, so this is what you can do in between:

    Treatments

    - you could try soaking your hair in warm beer. It activates your original hair-texture.

    - give your hair a home-made mask of egg and olive oil. It fortifies and moisturizes the hair, so less breakage occurs.

    - Sleep on a satin/silk pillow. Or make a loose braid and then wear a scarf covering your hair for the night. No more tangles, no more hair-pulling.

    - No heat at all!

    - Don't make buns or ponytails too tight, your scalp needs to breath oxygen in order to grow

    - Don't grease your scalp, you want oxygen there!

    Hairstyles

    - You could braid your hair, but don't use synthetic hair. Your braids will get too tight which is bad for hair and scalp.

    - Wear a pretty scarf and let your hair pop out on the back. Or, if you don't like the result, braid your hair and when it get's fluffy, use the scarf. (saves up to a week!)

    Hope it works!
Shaving it all off and starting over would work, and would be the best way. But consider the possibility that you just might LIKE having no hair! It's an authentic tribal look-- women in many tribes such as the Masai keep their hair extremely short, or even bald. It's a great look for a woman, and it's cool and convenient for summer. Try it!
take hair, skin and nails vitamin. it will make hair grow faster and stronger and healthier. so better than the first time.
    Buy a wig.
I thought, ';what an absurd thing to do!!'; Then I skimmed through everything you said you did. I still think, what an absurd thing to do.

I try to be as natural as I can in today's world. Cutting all of your hair off is not a very natural thing to do to have natural hair. Just don't worry about it. Go to a store that sells natural products and buy a shampoo and if you want, conditioner from there. Wash your hair as often as you feel it is needed. I wash my hair about every three days. Let it dry naturally, without a hair dryer. And eat food that is good for your hair and skin.

Go to PETA to get a list of companies that don't test on animals. Most of these companies that go by these ethics, will also put only the main ingredients in their hair products, without the unnecessary chemicals, and then you will have basically natural hair, that still smells half way decent, because you still bother to wash it.

I may try home remedy stuff but I don't take the time to today and my hair is in great shape.

Good brands to use for hair products are:

J/A/S/O/N, Arbonne,hmmmm... I can't think of any others that sell hair products off hand that are that natural. Avon is listed, but only because they don't test on animals. Whole Foods and The Good Food Company won't sell brands like that because of all the nasty chemicals they still put in their products, like Nexus and Got2be. J/A/S/O/N's shampoo doesn't lather up like the ones you will find at the drug store, like White Rain, Aussie, Johnson and Johnson, etc, but that is because they leave out and unnecessary and harmful chemical that causes it to lather up when mixed with water. You're better off without it.

    PETA's website is www.PETA.org.

Also, from what I hear, black's hair doesn't grow that fast. Keep what hair you have. Let it grow out. You can braid it, put in conditioning treatments, etc. Keep it up in a do bandana. Just putting conditioner in it, is not going to get it clean. You must use a shampoo now and then.

If you still want to cut it off, which I think you may regret, wear a bandana. No one that sees you will know you don't have any hair underneath.

I have now read through the other's answers. Just my opinion, but I like January's best. Pick her for best answer! :) Good luck also. And I commend you for going back to your roots.

I'm curious to know do black/white men prefer black women with natural hair or weaves?

I'm a black woman and I cut my perm out my hair. I am now wearing natural hair stlyes and eventually planning on locking my hair. I am wonder if men of all races would prefer black women with natural hair or would they like black women with perms and weaves to look like women of other ethics?I'm curious to know do black/white men prefer black women with natural hair or weaves?
I wear my natural hair in twists, an afro, puffs, or big wild curls when I undo the twists. Go on line and look up Miss Jessie's...she's got great products for natural hair. And yes...I really do think that the majority of guys (black and white) prefer a natural woman. Come on ladies...liberate yourselves--leave the weaves and fake blue contacts alone.I'm curious to know do black/white men prefer black women with natural hair or weaves?
I'm a white guy and I prefer black women period. Fro, dreads, weaves, braids, extensions - I say, ';who cares?'; If you can pull this or that off then do it, if it's sexy!

Natural...l mean if you get married or whatever they are always going to see you with your natural hair anyways!
I always vote for natural hair.

I'm not sure about the ingredients, but CHI makes a great heat protectant although it's on the pricey side. Beyond the Zone has a good heat protectant also.

What exactly is a transition from relaxed hair to natural hair?

    What are the steps

    Are there any tips

    Any good products

    Tell me everything you know!!!

THANKS!!!!What exactly is a transition from relaxed hair to natural hair?
Congratulations on making the excellent choice to go natural! I have a lot of tips.

I'm about 8 months into the transition and I have about 2-3 inches of new growth (hair grows about 1/2'; a month). I plan to BC (big chop) after Christmas since fully natural is more versatile and you don't completely see your texture until the ends are gone. Good luck if you want to grow hair long before chopping, impatience can set in.

For the transitioning I LOVE Pantene Relaxed and Natural conditioner and I only try to detangle with this in it. Something you MUST know about natural hair and for during the transition.

    1. Never, never, NEVER try to detangle or comb it without some type of conditioner in your hair. You are just asking for breakage and pain. Only detangle with fingers/wide tooth comb. It was rough until I discovered that conditioner is your best friend.

    2. You may have a very kinky/nappy texture. Do not look at curly haired pictures and think your hair will look like that. Embrace the texture you have or you will be running back to relaxers.

    3. Hair grows kind of slow for some people and it can get discouraging. Straighten every now and then so you can get a realistic idea of how much hair you have.

    4. Go to the below websites, check out people at the forums, how to videos on youtube, really research becuase there is now so much more info on natural hair than there used to be. Also know everyone's hair is different so find what works for you.

    5. You may get negative reactions from people like dirty looks and mean comments. Some people are still negative about nappy hair and some people just don't like change. Just hang in there becuase you know your hair is healthier.

There are 3 options for transitioning (that I know of). 1. The Big Chop 2. Leaving out

    3. Braiding down/weave/wigs

[[[[[1. Leave hair out while transitioning]]]]]

PRO: Learn to deal with new texture right away and what works and doesn't. Can grow out natural hair and keep relaxed hair so you don't have to have short hair. You don't get the culture shock of braiding down. Can cut off hair in little chops if you want or keep it until ready for the BC.

CON: The hassle of dealing with both textures can lead to a premature BIG CHOP. Also if you aren't ready for short hair not good for you because breakage might occur since the meeting point of relaxed/natural is fragile. Hard to find styles for both textures. Also the relaxed part of your hair weighs down the natural part and when the relaxed hair is gone you may be left with a totally different texture.

[[[[[2. Braid hair down/put under weave.]]]]]

PRO: This is good if you don't want to deal with the hassle of two textures and want to keep relaxed hair as long as possible. Also can wear kinky textured weave so you know what you would look like with natural hair and how to treat it.

CON: Some culture shock when hair gets unbraided and you don't know how to deal with new growth if you wore a straight weave. Braiding down for too long can also cause breakage and thinning around the temples.

    [[[3. The BIG CHOP]]]]]

PRO: Easiest, cutting off hair right away means no hassle of two textures and right option for people who's relaxed hair is damaged or they just want it gone right away. Also you know your texture right away without any interference from relaxed tresses.

CON: leaves you with about 1'; of new growth. Not for you if you hate short hair.

If you choose to leave hair out here are my tips on styling, products and hairstyles:

I like youtube.com. Some great natural users for product, inspiration and styling tips

http://www.youtube.com/user/ItsMsHeather鈥?/a>What exactly is a transition from relaxed hair to natural hair?
First step is to just stop relaxing your hair. You hair will then begin to ';transition'; to natural and you will start seeing more and more new growth as the months go on. You should only comb your hair when it is wet, and you should be VERY careful when combing, as the demarcation line where the natural hair and relaxed hair meets is VERY prone to damage and breakage....this is why most people do the BC (big chop) instead of transitioning to natural hair. You should also every month clip off about 1/8 inch of hair to speed up your transition....since hair typically grows at about 1/4 inch a month...this is a good way to keep long hair while still transitioning faster. When your natural hair reaches your desired length you can then clip off all of your relaxed hair.

Natural hair and transitioning hair performs better when using 100% natural products...Pink Moisturizer African Pride ect ain't gonna cut it. These products are riddled with bad ingredients such as mineral oil that worsen the condition of hair. Mineral Indulgence is a really good line of natural hair products for black women (I like it personally). I like the Kiwi Coconut Hair Smoothie the best as it is a great moisturizer and works as a good conditioner too. You can put it on while your hair is wet, or you can put it on dry hair and then sit under a drier...your hair will be soo shiny, soft and detangled...definitely worth it. The Avocado and Almond Butter Shampoo works well too. Make sure you have a regimen as natural products don't work well with chemical based products. If I were you I would just contact them and ask for a specific regimen.

    Good Luck!

What hair color goes good with a medium brown natural hair color?

i want to dye my hair over the summer and i dont know at color would

    go good with brown hair.

and also how do you think i should dye it:

    My whole head

    Highlights

The top half my natural color and bottom half different color.

if you have any other ideas please feel free to share =)What hair color goes good with a medium brown natural hair color?
Personally i think whole head always looks better, highlights are good too, just please not the half and half :S

I think you should get blonde highlights

    OR

Go darker with the whole head :D

Depending on your skin colour and style ectWhat hair color goes good with a medium brown natural hair color?
so i have hair like yours....

i don't think you should dye your hair. maybe just get highlights.

and don't do your 3rd choice.

if your going to get highlights, get like a blonde. but don't get like bleach blond. just get like a natural looking blonde. that's what i did.
hmm i think you should dye your hair from the back. so when you put your hair up it looks good:]
if i was you i would get blond hi lites
    die ur roots blonde

How often should you dye your hair if your natural hair is two shades darker?

Also, how soon can I do it? It's a little light and I want a medium auburn vs. a light auburn like I have. How often should you dye your hair if your natural hair is two shades darker?
I dye my at home about every 6 weeks..but if you want to do it more often try the root dye only after you find the color you want. Your hair will become very gummy and break when you comb it. You will also need to keep it trimmed, just a tiny bit off the ends to help keep it healthy. RHow often should you dye your hair if your natural hair is two shades darker?
when your roots are growing back
once a month or every two weeks depending on how fast you're hair grows.
when your roots start to show but you dont want to dye it too much otherwise you will burn ur hair..

i would suggest about once a month
when ever you roots start to show but i get mine dyed ever week because my hair grows fast

  • Does the weight of hair extensions actually make your natural hair grow faster?

The clip in ones? The glue in ones? I Have clip in ones and it seems that my real hair is growing faster!Does the weight of hair extensions actually make your natural hair grow faster?
No it doesn't. But maybe because you have extensions you haven't been blow drying or straightening your hair as much, therefre causing it less damage and allowing it to grow in a healthy way. also its possible that youre eating healthier and more nutritiously without realizing it and getting more protein (although thats a totally unrelated to the extensions.)Does the weight of hair extensions actually make your natural hair grow faster?
I don't think they can make hair gro faster. Maybe you have changed your diet in some way to make that happen.
im not sure iv had clip in ones for a while now and i dont see a drastic change in my hair growth. perhaps im not sure though.
nah, i had them for 2 years, my hair grew slower, now the extra weight will do more damage, but if you have a good diet then then your hair will grow fast not from the extensions themself.

Folic acid, vitamin Bs nad calcium helps hair grow and not over washing it too, wash it 3-4 times a week to stop extra damage.

Why does natural hair (on black people especially women) considered a political statement?

why can't it just be seen as how most of our hair grows? Also black women who wear their hair natural are seen as afrocentric that's so annoying. It's just how our hair grows out of our scalps. Why does natural hair (on black people especially women) considered a political statement?
I think it's b/c so many black women today use relaxers, weaves, and extensions. B/c of this when a black woman does wear her hair natural (or if she only presses her hair to straighten it) they stand out. They are going against the status quo of what ';good hair'; is and not pulling that ';quarter cherokee'; crap that so many pull. Why does natural hair (on black people especially women) considered a political statement?
I think people think it's a challenge to deal with Black hair. They think of weaves, they think of relaxers, braids, washing it when appropriate, how to avoid humidity when the hair is straight, etc. I think people who aren't knowledgeable on black hair get their gestures from black people.

As far as natural hair being looked at as Afrocetric. No one thinks that. And if so, one reason I can think of is how some black women with afros want to ridicule black women who relax their natural hair. Considering them self hating or not black enough. But depending on the woman, she's a real black woman wearing weaves. I mean some of the negative aspects of some Afrocentric people is very contradicting. If a black woman's hair is real, why can't she relax it? And to be honest, Afros don't look good on every black woman opposed to how beautiful many look with today's popular hair styles for natural hair mind you. You don't have to sport Afros, dread locks, twist to look good natural and many black women use hair treatments to have a decent Afro just like women who straighten their hair.

    alright Good Night people
    Lol

I have no clue.I just always thought of natural hair, just being hair.

    I like my hair natural

Although sorry to say,but i notice alot of afrocentrists wear their hair ';natural'; so that's where that stereotype comes from

I guess wearing it in it's natural state is basically like saying ';we aren't giving into the white standards of beauty';(from afrocentrists pov)
It's basically inevitable because going natural pretty much means that you have ';awaken';, if you will. You aren't doing what's accepted by society and you're just being yourself. And, as we know, going against the grain in anyway means that you're just begging to stick out like a sore thumb. You know it's a damn shame when you can't even be yourself without being viewed as a political statement.
i so agree, white women asian and hispanic where theirs as natural, just because it is natually straight people see it as the norm, but because black women's hair stands out the most, to others they will think it is having too much pride in their race. so what, thats just the way the hair grows!

and the other reason, is because many people ignorantly think, when a black woman relaxes her hair, she is trying to be white, no! she is trying to do a new hair style, as a tamed style, the natural style is more fun but its natural, and its just hair people!
thats society stamping another label on something with the big yellow caution tape.

Yes, its how our hair grows and its beautiful but society has brainwashed people to thinking things like afros mean untamed hair and unprofessional, as well as other natural hair styles such as locks.

It's sad, and yet another thing to force us into a Euro-centric mindset
its the same with black men and dreads if you got dreads they think your a thug or use drugs and don't go to school and you can wear your hair like you want to you'll still look good
Cuz Society sux...hair is hair..style or no style..and if they don't like it they can get the lipstick and get ready to kiss a very moon like place
The historical implications, not to mention it is not trendy in current society. Either way, do you!
i personally think black women look great with their natural hair. like in lil twists or something... I think the whole hair extinsions crap isn't for anyone.
U a nappy headed black girl and I'm a nappy Afro hoe
    Your hair is beautiful.

    You go babe!
    I know what you mean.
    In your mind only.
Well...if it's just hair, why are you always talking about it? lol
I find that many black women who wear their natural hair are more freakier in bed.

Does your natural hair color changes after dying the hair?

A hairdresser told me that my natural hair color will change after I dye my hair. So, if I dye my hair now, I will never have again the same natural hair color I have ow.Does your natural hair color changes after dying the hair?
thats true for your hair color but im naturally dark brown and it dont change minesDoes your natural hair color changes after dying the hair?
you are getting older and the color and shine go away with age.

when you color your hair it is SO hard to go back to natural because of the 'roots'.

so she is correct; you will never see this color on you again. love it while it lasts (if you aren't gray, yet. and if you are then color that hair, girl! lol) .
I'm not sure if your hair color will go back, but mine never did. My hair used to be light brown but now it is medium/ dark brown, after coloring it really dark brown. It wasn't regular dark brown, it was so dark that most people thought it was black.
if ur hair has been died 4 a long time then wen it goes away ur natural haircolor will show again
Only if you get old and your hair turns gray. If you are young and color your hair then let your hair grow back out it should still be the same color it was before you colored it in the first place.

How can I get my natural hair color back?

There is something that is called ';drabber';.

It takes out the red tones. Also you could also go

ash blond to get the red tones out.

If you have the money a COLORIST IS YOUR BEST OPTION!
tThe only way to get your natural color back is by letting your hair grow out and cutting off the dye. Even if you died your hair the same color as your natural color it still isn't natural you will still have chemicaly processed hair. hair grows depending on how often you cut it and how healthy it is. the average is about 1/2 an inch to an inch per month. With a proper trim every 6 weeks you should have your natural color back in about 18 months. If you cut your hair into a short shaped cute modern style it will be about 8 months to a year. good Luck.
Well you could dye it back to blonde... or wait till it grows out (the only real way to get your natural hair color back)

Bleaching hurts though... so i'd wait if i were you.
I think u should just let it grow out and wait till all of ur hair is blonde again. 2 me it doesn't really matter whatever other ppl think about u.

How do I turn my kinks into curls without chemically altering my natural hair?

    Hi,

I am of African and Native American descent. I have different hair textures: 3c in the front and sides of my head, and 4a and 4b in the top and back of my head? What are some products that I can use to make my hair feel softer and manegeable?

ThanksHow do I turn my kinks into curls without chemically altering my natural hair?
Make sure you condition a lot and also use a leave in conditioner or detangler. For styling you can use the shingling technique with hair mayonnaise or a thick curl pudding. The product weighs your hair down and stretches it turning your kinks to curls....you can also use the product to do two strand twists and sleep in a satin night cap...take the twists out in the morning. Your hair will feel soft, manageable and the style will last for about a week. How do I turn my kinks into curls without chemically altering my natural hair?
Sorry to say there is nothing that you can do to change the texture of your hair without chemicals.

You can try setting it on rollers, but you need to be very sure to get the hair around the roller very smoothly and evenly, especially the ends. And you need to get it completely dry before brushing out. That will temporarily change the structure of the hair, until it gets moisture in it again. At least, it will keep your hair under control for a short time.

To have something more permanent, you will have to chemically restructure you hair. It's not the complete answer, for you will still need to set it, but it will be easier to do.

Your alternative is to find a style that will work with YOUR hair the way it is now, and that you can maintain easily. That will take some work, but is worth it. Consult with a professionally trained hair stylist that works with African-American hair who understands what can be done with it. They may also have some new ideas for you to try out.

In the meantime, you want very healthy hair. Be sure you are well physically, and that you use good products. You want moisture in your hair, not oil, and then good styling products to keep it under control. Ask at the professional shop.
what you could do is this, grease your hair heavily and put it in plaits, NOT CORNROWS, all over your head, leave it like this for a few weeks or a month, and dont wash it. The take it out and you'll have pretty waves.
Hi, so am I, i press it with a flat iron. I don't use any chemicals becuase my hair is too fine for them, and they just flatten it.

Does hair extensions effect your natural hair growth?

I have hair extensions cause my hair doesn't grow, or grows very very very very slow. I have the same hair length ever since like the 5th grade. And right now am like in the 7th. But i don't hair extensions i feel like am losing hair but at the same time i need them cause i have short hair. My hair extensions are 18 inches. And my hair is like a little bit below my shoulders. And i need to know how to grow my hair little bit more faster cause am kinda getting tired of having extensions and i only had them twice.Does hair extensions effect your natural hair growth?
no, Britney spears has extensions now. and you can see where her hair is growing in (only b/c she shaved her head!) but i dated a girl once who had extensions had her hair grew like it would normally.Does hair extensions effect your natural hair growth?
How are the extensions in your hair? Sew-in? Bonded? Glued? Clip-ins?

I would recommend the sew-in (if you have coarse hair) because it allows your hair to relax and not have so much stress on it. I recently took out my sew-in weave and had tremendous growth because I couldn't straighten my hair or put any kind of stress on it when it was in.

Bonded and glued hair extensions can cause breakage to the hair because a) glue in the hair...enough said. b) bonded is bonded onto your real hair much like glue in which can put stress on the hair strands.

  • How to remove color to get back to natural hair color?

My hair is naturally drab gray. I just started coloring my hair at home over the last 9 months (after having it professionally done for the last 20 years). I want the end result of my hair color to be golden brown. I do not touch up roots in between hair coloring. I do an overall color. Each time I colored my hair, I chose a color that wasn't quite light enough. I'm ready for another coloring. My roots are drab gray, the rest of my hair looks like one solid light brown color. Since I have been using different shades of golden brown each time I color, should I use a hair color remover first to get back to my natural color and then do an overall color of a very light golden brown/blonde? Or just color my hair with the very light golden brown. I do not have different colors in my hair now, but mentally I feel like I do because of the 4 different times I've colored with a different color. Help!!!How to remove color to get back to natural hair color?
yes..If youre going from darker to lighter with about 4 different colors youll definately want to remove the color. They sell a product...its a powder and you mix it with a 20 volume liquid..you can buy the powder and possibly 20 vol at Walmart...The particular powder Im thinking of is called Un-color, but the other brands work just as well...its in a packet usually on the bottom shelf. Be careful using a lot of anything on the hair or it will become ';mushy'; and break off, especially if heat is applied. Good luck! *I have been a professional hairdresser for 16 years*How to remove color to get back to natural hair color?
Coloring your hair changes the hair structure so using a hair color remover will NOT return your hair to its natural color. I don't understand why you aren't just touching up your roots as needed??? In any case, to lighten your hair you need to get highlights and use bleach-just using another lighter box of color will not lighten it over the existing color. In any case, you should see your stylist. Ask her the color she uses (like 7GB, 6RB) and use a box color for your roots in between salon visits.
When you use a ';hair color remover'; you remove all the color - even the natural color is gone. If no color was added, you would have a white hair. Do note that coloring too soon will give you a green shade.

Knowing that and knowing the last color you had, just move up 2 shades.

How long would it take after I got the perm for my natural hair to grow?

My hair grows fairly fast and I was wondering how long it'll take after the perm for my natural hair texture to be noticable? How long would it take after I got the perm for my natural hair to grow?
your hair is suppose to grow a 1/2 in a month, so within 2 months you should be able to see where your natural hair is growing in, depends on how tight of a curl you got, to if it would be really noticeable or not, some times perms just kind of drop the curl so it isn't so noticeable all depends on exactly what you get done. Your stylist can tell you what to expect. How long would it take after I got the perm for my natural hair to grow?
    about six months,

maybe a few weeks earlier if you hair grows fast.
    aprox 6 months
at the least a month, youll get about 1/4 of an inch a month

How do I get my natural hair color back?

My hair is naturally a platinum blonde, and about a mont ago I dyed it red. it has faded to a sort of strawberry blonde, but still mostly red. How many kits of blonde color do you think I'll need to make my hair completely blonde again? do you have any other suggestions other than dying as to how I could get my natural hair color back!?! I used a permanent dye :(How do I get my natural hair color back?
use a pre lightener first! to strip the colour if you sue pre lightener first rather than bleach it leaves your hair soft , then use a honey toner not an ash one as it might turn it greenish grey, then use blonde hair dye, possibly bleach once, youl probably need natural coloured blonde ahighlights so the hair has isnt just one block colour but you could get the high lights at the hairdressers, try not to dye mroe than once a week to makesure you dotn kill your hair! if you have any worries pop to a hairdressers and ask as they can tell you what they think in person as they can see your hair and check the condition x

(edit, unfortunately ive had to go from dark to light a million times from being stupid and dying my hair every week almost!)How do I get my natural hair color back?
Even permanent dyes start fading and washing out after a couple of months. Don't use sun-in products. They damage your hair and really dry it out. And also don't re dye your hair blonde. it's best to go to a hairdresser, tell them which brand of colouring you used and see if they can help. If not, then just grow it out the old fashioned way.

to lighten hair, I strongly recommend you go to a professional... it's so easy to mess this up... some kind of bleaching agent (color remover, bleach) will have to be used first %26amp; then you will require a full haircolor... anything involving more than one process should always be handled by professionals
Rather than using dye, you could use a sun-in product. You could have your hair stripped, but that does a lot of damage
you CANT dye light over dark

you will get a very very messed up color

    dont believe me

    give it a try

How do I grow my natural hair out from a perm?

Had the begining of last october I had my hair permed, and it was REALLY curly everywhere..it still didn't come out, but it is straight at the top now and sorta wavish at the bottom. I have naturally straight hair, and I don't want to straighten in everyday like I do now..I could cut my hair where it's wavy at, it wouldn't be that short, but it took me a long time to grow my hair where it is now..any way I van get it out without cutting it?How do I grow my natural hair out from a perm?
Hunny when you permed your hair you rearrange the bonds in your hair to make them curly so the only way to get rid of those curls are to cut them if you try to stighten it with any chemeical. Like said above you take the risks most likely break your hair off and if it doesent break off it will be super damaged take biotin it will. Help hair growth. Good luckHow do I grow my natural hair out from a perm?
If you went to a salon to get it done, they can use the same chemical they used to process it, but instead of using curlers they keep the hair straight while it processes. Im not sure how straight it will get, but you can try calling the salon to find out.

Can i use these products on my hair such as the Super Skinny Serum, the Relaxing Blam, the Daily Shampoo and ect. What will it do to my hair?I am an African American with thick course natural hair. Can I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny products?
As the other respondents have stated, you can utilize shampoo and conditioners that were made ';specifically'; for other races. The same people who are making ';DOO-Grow'; targeting black people, are the same people that are making Pantene shampoo etc.

My advice for you is to do some research, not necessarily the brand, more of the ingredients that are in the products. One website that I do suggest going to is http://motowngirl.com/content/index.php?鈥?/a>

It shows you a better way to care for your hair. In addition, as I mentioned prior, the ingredients that you should avoid that prevents your hair from growing.

Also, I want to suggest another website http://bglhonline.com/ which is a forum about natural hair

Hope that helpsI am an African American with thick course natural hair. Can I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny products?
the only difference between 'white' and 'black' hair is the shape of the hair itself, and that African Americans have naturally dryer hair, so if should be fine on your hair, just make sure you don't wash it everyday! and you condition it really really really well :)
of course. lots of ';white people'; shampoo is really good for black hair. actually, many ';black people'; shampoos are made by the same ';white shampoo'; companies. same thing different package.
Try a good relaxer and straighten.

  • What is the best way to blend my natural hair in with extensions?

i have kinda short hair, it's right at my shoulders. i bought some clip in hair extensions that go past my ****. but i'm having a problem getting them to blend well. the color is fine, and for the most part you can't tell, but i'm just having a problem with my shorter pieces of hair showing through!

any tips on how to make it all blend better? What is the best way to blend my natural hair in with extensions?
i know this will be difficult but style ur hair and the extensions all as one...with hairspray on ur hair and extension hair...then grab a bit of both and straighten over it....if that doesnt work try using a straightner but curling ur hair in towards the extensions and pulling the extensions out around it sort of...

also try putting the extensions in when ur hair is damp and make the extensions a lil bit damp too and put them in and let ur hair dry naturally...then style ur hair how u want all together.

Is it possible to make natural hair curly or wavy?

My hair is naturally straight but at the ends it curls or waves upwards like crazy! I really want my hair to be naturally wavy or curly :) Is there any way I can get a treatment or something to make it do that?Is it possible to make natural hair curly or wavy?
A perm or body wave would do that...

Do you brush your hair while it's wet? if you do, you are actually straightening naturally wavy hair (I suspect this is so because of the wave at the ends you mentioned)

Try not brushig your hair after you wash it, but instead putting a quarter sized amount of gel or mousse in your hands and running that through with your fingers, after you've done that scrunch it up with your hands - just grab bunches from the bottom and push them towards the top - this will encourage any natural wave to come though...Is it possible to make natural hair curly or wavy?
Yes you can get a body wave put in your hair. Just ask your stylist what would be best for what you are wanting.
yes you can get a perm or scrunch wet hair with moose and then put hairspray in
    Ask ur hair salon

You should go and see your stylist or call and set up an appointment for a consultation. Tell him/her your problem they can help. The cost will be determined by how much work the stylist puts into your and and the amount of product needed to fix your hair. Ask for a price range before you decide to book an appointment. Take some hair pics from a magazine that your like or a picture of yourself with your natural color so the stylist will have an idea of want you want! What can i use to get hair extension glue out of my natural hair?

About 2-3 weeks ago i finally took out my hair extensions. The problem is the hair glue that i used to put the hair extensions on in the first place stayed in my natural hair. Now i have no idea how to remove the glue from my hair. Prom is coming up soon and i also have to leave for bootcamp real soon. I can barely run a brush through my hair! I dont know what to do. Please if you have any suggestions i would love to hear them. Thank you i totally appreciate it.What can i use to get hair extension glue out of my natural hair?
I used to wear extensions and this used to happen to me. I would spray my scalp with oil sheen and get a fine tooth comb and gently comb it out. Using a brush is a no-no until you get all of the glue out of your hair. :-)What can i use to get hair extension glue out of my natural hair?
I dont know what your hair type is but what works for some Black women is putting some type of grease or oils and sliding it out like that.....its probably safe for you to use some kind of hair oil..that should be able to slide it out!

  • How often should you wash natural hair?

Im keeping my hair natural and use Nexxus hair products, but how often should I do that? How often should you wash natural hair?
If you are using air products should wash everyday, though if dry just use conditioner every other day and see if this helps from build-up on your scalp or you may need to try to use something for dry scalp if needed every dayHow often should you wash natural hair?
I wash my hair 1-3 times a week because I like to keep my hair clean and free of build-up, and I do a deep condition once a week. My hair is short right now so I don't have a problem with washing it often because it doesn't take more than 10 minutes. Once it gets longer then I might cut it down to a once a week deep conditioner and detangling session. You can co-wash (wash with conditioner) every day and the conditioner will get rid of most of the dirt and oils from your hair, except products that are not water soluable, hard water, and some minerals. Also, the conditioner will build up over time so you will have to eventually clarify with homemade ingredients or use shampoo. Some naturals only shampoo once a month (or clarify) and co-wash the rest of the time.

If you co-wash then use a moisturizing conditioner. Most shampoos contain a drying agent (SLS) that leaves the hair dry after shampooing. This is a harsh ingredient for natural hair and this is why many naturals, and people with very curly hair, will co-wash or use organic shampoos and conditioners. Organic products don't contain this drying agent and helps your hair retain moisture.
If your hair is curly or very brittle, about once a week.

depending on what you did, you could try OOPs, sold in hair colour aisle...that will remove hair dye that is in your hair...not sure if it will be exactly what you need as you didn't state your problem. A great product to try is Natural Instinct, go as close to you natural colour as possible and it really conditions your hair too.....if your hair is just flat looking and not dyed that will do wonders too. blessingsHow can I get my natural hair color back without damaging it or letting it grow out!?
i would see if there's any shampoos or hair products that fade hair color. definitely don't use color protectent stuff. or you could ask your hair stylist too and see what she thinks. o then i have one more idea. use sun-in. it's a spray you can either use with the sun or with a blow dryer and it makes your hair blonder because it has lemon juice in it :)
i had the same problem. if you go to your hair dresser they have a dye that takes out all previous dye that was ever put in your hair and it doesnt damage it and it goes back to your orginal color.
I believe in drug stores, there are products dat u put in ur hair to drained the colour out, ask them cuz i dont noe exact names of one, or if u have the money go to the hair dressers.

How can I strip my highlights safely and go back to my natural hair color?

Hi, I'm 6 weeks pregnant and although I've read that it's safe to highlight hair while pregnant, I've decided against it. I want to take out my blonde highlights and return to my natural, darker blonde hair color while I'm pregnant. Any advice or products to recommend? Thanks! How can I strip my highlights safely and go back to my natural hair color?
You can't ';take out'; highlights. The only thing you can do is to dye them the same color as the rest of your hairHow can I strip my highlights safely and go back to my natural hair color?
The danger in coloring your hair while pregnant is the small, it is basically like snorting and can cause the baby brain damage (there is no danger in having the chemicals on your head). So if you cover your nose and do it in a well ventilated area you are safe. This danger is really only present while you are in the first trimester, after that you'll be alright without the towel or mask over your nose. Highlights are hair that has been stripped of color, color hasn't been added to it (hair dye isn't like paint, it is a chemical process). The only way to change the color of your hair is by altering the concentration of molecules in the hair shaft and this has to be done with chemicals, sorry. You will need a permanent blonde dye, it will darken your highlights. What about the rest of your hair? If the base color of your hair is darker and you want to lighten it, then you'll have to bleach it. If it is where you want it to be, just put the dye on the whole thing to even it out. But once again, this can only be done with dye.

How many times will i need to bleach my hair if my natural hair colour is black?

I'm just wondering how many packs of bleach i will get through. How many times will i need to bleach my hair if my natural hair colour is black?
to get the reddish purple to its most vibrant you dont need to bleach your hair until its white, a orangy yellow will do. i suggest going to Sally's and getting a big bottle of 30% vol peroxide and a big pack of bleach, cost me like 拢7 and it lasts to about 50 applications or even more. so if you run out of bleach you can always mix up another batch and you will be able to use it if you want to bleach your hair in the future. it will be much easier, cheaper, more practical and safer than using the individual packs. good luck! How many times will i need to bleach my hair if my natural hair colour is black?
i'm thinking about 3. use 40 volume the first time, mix 30 and 40 evenly the second time and use 30 the third time. after the second bleaching, you will really notice that your roots will be a lighter yellow than the lengths of your hair. this is from the heat of your scalp making the bleach work faster. so for the third time, don't apply bleach to your roots again, it will cause them to turn white and result in an uneven blonde color. it should make your hair a really light yellow, which is the perfect color for toning after. toner is a mild, permanent dye that is meant to be used on hair that has just been bleached to achieve a more natural, true blonde and not so fakey yellow. go to sally beauty to get all your bleach and while you're there, get some wella color charm toner, it's the best i've ever used. it comes in 2 ounces and requires 4 ounces of 20 volume peroxide so you will also need to get a small bottle of 20, reusable gloves that you can also use when you bleach and an applicator bottle to hold the toner. apply it to your hair immediatley after you shampoo out the last wave of bleach, while your hair is damp and leave it on for 30 minutes and it will give you a nice, light natural blonde color with no further damage. while you're at sally's, look for the ardell color/bleach additives. you add them to bleach and dyes and they prevent hair from turning too orange/yellow/gold during the bleaching process and remove existing brassy tones in hair when added to toner or dye. look for the unred, red gold corrector plus and lock-in blonde. add unred and red gold to your bleach every time you bleach and add all 3 to your toner. unred and lock-in blonde require 10 drops per every ounce of peroxide used and red gold requires 15 for every ounce.

just a few tips for you to get great looking blonde. good luck!

edit - toning your hair after you bleach it will help your purple color come out the color you want. if it's too yellow it won't look like the exact color you're trying to go for. so when you pick a toner, get the ';white lady'; shade, it will make the purple come out great.
my friend's hair colour is black. she wanted to dye her hair electric blue, but told by her hairdresser by the time her hairs been bleached enough, it'll be straw if not fallen out, due to the natural darkness of her hair.
Depends on how long and thick your hair it. If it is think below the shoulder (around mid-back) you might need 3. Anything less, no more than 2.
You should go to a salon.. However your hair will never be blonde like a ';white girl's'; because the type of hair you have.

Your hair will 99.9% come out orange
dont use bleach, its really bad , use color instead, its long lasting and good try it.........

I dyed my hair black yesterday. Anyone know ways to get it back to your natural hair color?

Or somewhere close to it? Before black, I dyed my hair auburn red. My natural hair color is light brown. On a whim yesterday, I dyed my hair black--like JET BLACK.

Now I am on a quest to get it back to my natural hair color and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a way I can accomplish that without killing my hair.I dyed my hair black yesterday. Anyone know ways to get it back to your natural hair color?
there are hair color removals, that you can do. go to a salon, so that nothing goes wrong!I dyed my hair black yesterday. Anyone know ways to get it back to your natural hair color?
Try to find a picture of a person with the exact same color, or another one you like, and show it to someone and get a picture. You can also (I know this sounds ridiculous) go to a place where they sell paints and browse around in the brown section. Show a color u like to ur stylist and well.. dye the hair!
Black is the hardest color to get out of hair when I dyed my hair black I tried dying over it brown and it didn't work than I went to a salon and they had to strip my hair so I suggest you go to a salon because thats the only way your going to be able to get the black out
find your natural hair color mix and then it will change back to ur natual color.

How ling will it take to go from relax hair to natural hair?

I am a black girl. And the last time I had a perm was in the beginning of June. How much longer should I wait to get my hair cut?How ling will it take to go from relax hair to natural hair?
It's totally up to you and how long you want it. To get an idea of how much you should cut, when you wash it see were the curly/kink hair at your root ends and the straight relaxed hair begins. If that natural hair is long enough for you then you can cut it at that length. Since hair grows about 1/2 to a full inch each month that would 4 to 8 months to get 4 inches which is at least long enough to tuck behind your ear.

Congrats on starting your natural journey!

I think natural hair looks better on everybody. Many black people are big boned and tall, not being racist, just saying what I've observed. So the natural hair looks more proportional. Besides, it looks kind of free and bouncy, not as limp and reserved as straight, styled hair. (continued)

Its not like we can't straighten it, so i dont understand why some of us get perms. I've never had one in my life. But looking at my cousins, i would never get a perm. My little 11 year old cousin got a perm when she was about 8, her hair was never the same. It used to be so pretty, long, and thick, but now its all thin and her edges are broken off so bad. All of her hair is very damaged, its so thin. I wouldn't recommend it to any one of color. All it does is damage your hair, and make it even thinner, and it takes forever to grow it out. It does make it grow quicker than usual, but who wants long broken, thin, dry hair.

    Kinky hair is best.
i like my natural hair so more than having it relaxed.if i want it straigth all i have to do is get it flat ironed, not too much though. last year i had my hair relaxed for the first time, it only lasted for about three months then i went back natural. since then i've cut of about 4in of the relaxed hair off, my hair was long so i have more to get. i grew about 3-4 in of my natural hair back. its notice able because my hair is wavy. i didnt cut all the relaxed hair off, im just cutting bit by bit. well my mom is. dont think im bald though, my hair is still past my neck
Natural is better. But it takes a while for people to catch on to this. It's up to the individual, but natural is beautiful!
natural. but it really depends on the style either way you go. relaxed looks pretty sometimes and so does natural but it really depends on its style
i think that it depends what their natural hair looks like. some people look really good with their natural hair, but others look like they don't really care about their appearance. i guess it really just depends on who you are...
Natural hair is better. It actually grows faster when it is natural because that is the way G-d created us. Chemicals are not good for any group of people.
some look good with kinks in their hair. others like myself look better with relaxed hair. btw, i have no split ends and i use smooth n shine polishing to protect my hair from any type of heat damage
I agree! I hate when they straighten there hair, because it just doesn't look good!

Their curls/kinks are gorgeous! I'm jealous! I could never pull them off!
I love my relaxed hair. Most people don't know how to care for relaxed hair so it looks damaged, but mine is just fine.
Natural hair is always the best. :]
i agree. think im gonna rock a afro this summer!

Combine mashed avacodo with some coconut milk. Mash together until its smooth and about as thick as shampoo. Comb it through the hair and let sit for 10 -15 minutes, wash out.

    This works!
Do NOT use mayonnaise on your hair.

Mayonnaise adds excess oil to your hair and you'll spend a great deal of time trying wash it out. The excess oil will cause build up on the hair cuticle which will make your hair extremely, extremely limp and dull.

Plus it has a horrible odor. You'd be just as good off to buy a higher end conditioner plus it smells much better. There are plenty of gentle conditioners out there. Making your own conditioner at home can be messy and give you the opposite effect of what it was you were going for in the first place.

How long does it take for your natural hair colour to grow/fade out all on it's own?

My hair is naturally blonde. I tried to dye it blonde again, no luck. I do not want to damage my hair any further, so my only question is, how long does it take? My current hair colour is a dark auburn/brunette, with blonde semi-roots and dark blonde roots. How long does it take for your natural hair colour to grow/fade out all on it's own?
Your hair grows approx 1/2 inch a month. If you hate it go to a professional hairstylist that is experienced in color correction and see what they can do, but it will damage your hair no matter what. You may want to try to just do some highlights to disguise the difference and just go often for more hightlights so you can become more and more blonde. If you try and bleach your hair out yourself, you are only asking for more trouble, I am a hairstylist and I make a lot of money off of home hair coloring/bleaching mishaps.

Also, to let you know, don't attempt to color the ends with something close to your natural color, it won't work. A lighter hair dye cannot lighten up the dark. It needs to be stripped out either with color remover, or bleach.

I don't know how long you have been coloring your hair the darker color, but if it was only one time, you can try washing it with Dawn dishwashing soap or Prell shampoo. But be prepared for some pretty dry hair. It won't take the color out but it might lighten it up a little. Hit or miss. How long does it take for your natural hair colour to grow/fade out all on it's own?
I have heard that if you use regular shampoo and conditioner it will strip the color out faster...

my hair never did go back to the lighter blonde after i died it auburn.... and that was 16 years ago....
It'll take a while for your hair to grow out (months), but it varies from person to person. I'd suggest that you go to a qualified hair dresser and get them to strip the colour from your hair, and then dye it blond. It'll cost around $100-150, but it'll be worth it. Then you can let your hair grow in, and since your hair is already blonde, the roots will blend in. If you allow your hair to grow out now, it'll look funny because you'll have brown hair with blonde roots.

If you're on a budget you could try bleaching your hair, and then using a toner to get a blonde shade. I wouldn't recommend this because it's VERY easy to make a mistake and either fry your hair or get a horrible colour.

    Hope this helps!
