Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?

I want to do this, but I am scared of how everything will turn out. I have transitioned before (relaxed to natural) but the diff. is that I cut off most of the relaxed ends. I have never just cut it all off at once. What would you suggest? I am home for the summer, so I would not have to worry about other people seeing my head shaved, but at the same time I don't think I would feel very feminine.

My hair has been natural before, but I get frustrated with it bc I don't know how to properly handle it and I just give in to relaxers. When it is in its natural state, I can't treat it like kinky afro textured hair, bc it is wavy/curly but coarse at the same time. Therefore, I can't go a long time w/o washing it. My hair is also too fine to do twists and things of this nature designed for kinkier hair.

I have also tried the no shampoo method in which one washes their hair with conditioner, but it cause my hair to come out. What would you do?Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?
ok, there was a point in my life where I wanted to just shave off my hair, but before I did that, my friend told me to do this, and ever since then my hair has been perfect...do this once a week or every other week..this is awesome and will work..don't shave it babe! Do this YOU HAVE TO !!!!!!!!!

It's like being reborn (well your hair at least) it will feel like a baby after the first time you do it, and it wil only get better ify ou do this regularly.

Here you go! I have already gotten like a million best answers for this, and my friends call this hair crack. So, don't pass this up!

FOR THICK AND THIN HAIR

1. Warm up some olive oil in the microwave (not too hot, luke warm, and the purer the olive oil the better.)

2. Apply it all over your hair. Apply it to dry hair. Especially pay attention to the ends.

3. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap. (This is because it does get a little drippy sometimes).

4. Place a towel around your neck. (Same reason as above.)

5. Leave in for an hour.

6. Shampoo and condition it out. (Make sure not to slip in the shower, that stuff is slippery.

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIN HAIR

Use coconut oil, and do the same as above. (It's not as drippy as olive oil though.) Coconut oil isn't really great for people with thick hair. It tends to make thick hair a little tangled and little greasy. So people with thin hair only!

Do this either once a week or every other week.

I have gotten so many people hooked on this, it should be illegal.

Definetly do this and tell me how it works! Is it true that the easiest way to have natural hair is just to cut it all off and start over again?
YOUR CHOICE.

How I did it? I grew out my perm for 1 year, then got the treated hair cut.

Also, dying your hair loosens your curl like a texturizer so your curls will be softer and more manageable. Good products are Cantu ($5 at walmart), OUIDAD ($35 and up ouidaed.com), and Miss Jessie's (just google the product name). By following the directions, your curls should be EXTREMELY managable. I wash mine 2 times a week, use wash out conditioner everyday, and use Cantu Shea Butter leave in everyday.

Love your curly hair!
yeah seriousl;y if you want your natural hair back thats the best way to do it to get it fast cause if you dyed it so many times it's going to need time to get all those colors out. If your going to be embaressed cause you have no hair i guess you could wear a wig with a hat on top or something. sorry. hope i helped.
U ahould not cut it all Just the damaged ends little by little as before Then consider growing it longer you can try some braids like french braids on each side if it gets long enough to have some weight Keep shampooing to keep clean and fresh but at the intervals that are easiest for you to maintain Assk people that lhave your type hair exactly that dont use relaxers and that dont have dreads. I see many Ethiopian/Arab women with kinky but not totally Afro style fix their longer hair w/o relaxers and it is often french braided and looks very pretty
You know, I was thinking the same thing! So after I get married I'm gonna shave my head and start again. It sounds like a great idea and you should be really dedicated to it!

Good luck!!
I made the switch in Aug '06. What finally helped me was visiting WWW.MOTOWNGIRL.COM It's a great site because it teaches how to take care of you natural hair and what products to avoid. The biggest hurdle for me was myself. I had to get use to the idea of being nappy. Now, I love it and I wish I had made the switch earlier. It is actually easier to take care of and so much stronger than when it was chemically processed.

Email me and I'll give you some more tips.
omg i wouldn't shave it off mind you i do alot of crappy things to my hair like right now my hair is orange on da real but i ain't shavin it lol i think u need a trim on ur hair and a good shampoo and conditioner and we all have breakage
i dont think it will make a difference if youre bald or not.

as it grows cut off the parts you dislike and in the end you will only have your natural hair.
I always tell people to just go into a salon and get an opinion before you do anything.

A stylist experienced with your situation would be able to give you the best options. Not just any stylist. One that works exclusively with African American hair.

That site has a lot of info about going natural with interesting ideas. Good stuff!
i'm sorry i'm not that familiar with african american hair

if you're willing to shave your head, more power to you

i would suggest getting wigs though, just so you can feel good about yourself too

wish you the best of luck!
I wouldn't cut your hair, if I were you. If you regret it, it'll ruin your summer.

Wait untill your new-growth is long enough, than you can cut the rest. This could take up to a year, so this is what you can do in between:

Treatments

- you could try soaking your hair in warm beer. It activates your original hair-texture.

- give your hair a home-made mask of egg and olive oil. It fortifies and moisturizes the hair, so less breakage occurs.

- Sleep on a satin/silk pillow. Or make a loose braid and then wear a scarf covering your hair for the night. No more tangles, no more hair-pulling.

- No heat at all!

- Don't make buns or ponytails too tight, your scalp needs to breath oxygen in order to grow

- Don't grease your scalp, you want oxygen there!

Hairstyles

- You could braid your hair, but don't use synthetic hair. Your braids will get too tight which is bad for hair and scalp.

- Wear a pretty scarf and let your hair pop out on the back. Or, if you don't like the result, braid your hair and when it get's fluffy, use the scarf. (saves up to a week!)

Hope it works!
Shaving it all off and starting over would work, and would be the best way. But consider the possibility that you just might LIKE having no hair! It's an authentic tribal look-- women in many tribes such as the Masai keep their hair extremely short, or even bald. It's a great look for a woman, and it's cool and convenient for summer. Try it!
take hair, skin and nails vitamin. it will make hair grow faster and stronger and healthier. so better than the first time.
Buy a wig.
I thought, ';what an absurd thing to do!!'; Then I skimmed through everything you said you did. I still think, what an absurd thing to do.

I try to be as natural as I can in today's world. Cutting all of your hair off is not a very natural thing to do to have natural hair. Just don't worry about it. Go to a store that sells natural products and buy a shampoo and if you want, conditioner from there. Wash your hair as often as you feel it is needed. I wash my hair about every three days. Let it dry naturally, without a hair dryer. And eat food that is good for your hair and skin.

Go to PETA to get a list of companies that don't test on animals. Most of these companies that go by these ethics, will also put only the main ingredients in their hair products, without the unnecessary chemicals, and then you will have basically natural hair, that still smells half way decent, because you still bother to wash it.

I may try home remedy stuff but I don't take the time to today and my hair is in great shape.

Good brands to use for hair products are:

J/A/S/O/N, Arbonne,hmmmm... I can't think of any others that sell hair products off hand that are that natural. Avon is listed, but only because they don't test on animals. Whole Foods and The Good Food Company won't sell brands like that because of all the nasty chemicals they still put in their products, like Nexus and Got2be. J/A/S/O/N's shampoo doesn't lather up like the ones you will find at the drug store, like White Rain, Aussie, Johnson and Johnson, etc, but that is because they leave out and unnecessary and harmful chemical that causes it to lather up when mixed with water. You're better off without it.

PETA's website is www.PETA.org.

Also, from what I hear, black's hair doesn't grow that fast. Keep what hair you have. Let it grow out. You can braid it, put in conditioning treatments, etc. Keep it up in a do bandana. Just putting conditioner in it, is not going to get it clean. You must use a shampoo now and then.

If you still want to cut it off, which I think you may regret, wear a bandana. No one that sees you will know you don't have any hair underneath.

I have now read through the other's answers. Just my opinion, but I like January's best. Pick her for best answer! :) Good luck also. And I commend you for going back to your roots.
